Brazil is the largest visa-exempt country in South America for Schengen travel, and Brazilian citizens already enter for short stays without a visa. ETIAS will formalise a pre-travel check for them - an online authorisation, not a visa.

As with every nationality, ETIAS leaves the 90-days-in-180 limit untouched. It is an extra requirement to clear before departure, applied for online and linked to your passport.

Passport and bilateral agreements

Brazil maintains bilateral visa-waiver agreements with several individual Schengen states dating back many decades. While some travellers cite them for longer single-country stays, their interaction with the 90/180 rule is unsettled, so treat 90/180 as the binding limit. Your Brazilian passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure and issued within the previous 10 years.

How Brazilians will apply

When ETIAS launches, Brazilians will apply online on the official EU portal, pay €20 (free under 18 or over 70), and receive an authorisation linked to their passport for up to 3 years. It is not a visa - see what ETIAS is and how it differs from a visa.

ETIAS gets Brazilians to the border; it does not extend the stay. Check how many days are left with the free 90/180 calculator.
